3 Types of Lighting
+ How to Use Them
Knowing all the different types of lighting and how to incorporate them into your home is the #1 thing that makes a home feel calm, happy, and serene.
Here are the 3 types of lighting:
When designing your home, aim to use all three types in every room, even the kitchen.
When a room is well lit, with multiple sources of light at different levels, it creates such a calming, inviting atmosphere. Here are the three types at work in a kitchen:
Lighting plays such an important role in design- but is often not thought about until the end of the project.
First, is there an option for an overhead light? If yes, can you take this opportunity to do a fun light fixture that would make a statement? (You’ll need less decorative items to achieve your desired look if all the “permeant” items are in your style) If there is no power source for a light fixture, don’t worry, overhead lighting is the least important one- you’ll just have to make up for the lack of light with the accent and task lighting.
Now, think about the perimeter of the room you are designing- how can you light the perimeter to create a cozy feel? Shadows created be wall scones have a huge impact in the evening hours.
Then, where will you need direct light for tasks like reading? This is where all your lamps come into play- keep trying different types and styles until you find the right balance.
Lastly- don’t overlook the importance of the light bulb.
The exact temperature of light bulb is a personal choice, but as a guide, aim for bulbs around 3000K and 800L for a warm, cozy glow.
